My Friend

Copyright 2007

A long, low, black, brown-footed dachshund-cocker spaniel,

With a white stripe down his breast,

He was truly mine,

I was with him and he was with me,

He only heard tones,

He knew no words,

Food, warmth, love, attention.

Might as well be an insane invention,

He listened a lot,

But I think he heard not,

How could it be?,

Such intimacy,

And I to him was just,

Food, warmth, love, attention.
